Caring for People
Help us help others through our annual Caring for People Campaign!
“Caring for People” is a YMCA of Topeka Tradition
- Philanthropy in our YMCA
- The YMCA of Topeka is a not-for-profit membership organization having served the Topeka community continuously since 1880, for the purpose of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. The YMCA has been classified as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions to the YMCA are tax deductible as provided by law. In furthering its mission to the community, the YMCA of Topeka believes in the fundamental principle of philanthropy, and seeks charitable support from the community it serves. Increased financial resources made available through charitable contributions allow the YMCA to further its mission in the community by serving more children, youth and families, while promoting the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Caring for People Campaign – Annual Sponsorship
- The Caring for People Annual Sponsorship Campaign is intended to increase the financial resources available to serve those who might not otherwise be able to participate in YMCA of Topeka activities and programs.
- During the year of 2006, the YMCA will provide in excess of $200,000 in sponsorship support for those who qualify for reduced fees. The Caring for People Campaign provides support for children, youth, families and senior adults. Federal Poverty Guidelines are used in determining eligibility.
- Gifts of any amount are needed and appreciated. Here’s how your gift can help!
- $25 will provide a preschool skill class for one child
- $50 will provide a Fabulous Friday experience for seven children
- $100 will provide child care for one child for one week

- Caring for People Campaign – Heritage Club
- The YMCA of Topeka Foundation maintains three funds: The Endowment Fund, The Ready Fund, and the Maintenance Reserve Fund. Persons giving through the Caring for People Campaign to the Heritage Club assist the YMCA by raising endowment funds to help insure the continuing health of the YMCA of Topeka, to loan money to the YMCA of Topeka for emergencies, and to provide money for capital improvements to YMCA of Topeka facilities.
- Persons are interested in knowing that their heirs will be well taken care of after they are gone, but most persons are also interested in leaving a legacy. It may be possible to create a significant legacy while leaving 80% to 90% of a person’s estate to fill family needs. Substantial tax savings and other important benefits are available through a variety of current and deferred gift endowment plans.
- Here’s how you can leave a legacy:
- An Outright Gift (cash, securities): Creates current income tax savings, Provides possible capital gains savings
- A Charitable Remainder Trust: Provides a lifetime income to the donor or other persons, Creates income tax savings in the year the gift, Allow capital gains, estate and gift tax savings, Provides for tax-free sale of assets
- Naming the YMCA Foundation in a Life Insurance Policy: Makes possible a large future gift, Provides possible current income tax savings
- A Bequest in One’s Will: Insures that assets one needs during life will not be dissipated, and makes possible a substantial charitable gift in memory of an individual, Creates estate tax savings
- Memorial/Honorary Gifts: A loved one can be remembered forever through contributions to the Endowment Fund, A special personal achievement may be recognized through a donation to the Endowment Fund.
