Before and after school child care

YMCA PRIME TIME

SCHOOL AGE CARE PROGRAM

The Topeka YMCA offers the Prime Time school age care program at many Topeka and Shawnee County area elementary schools. We provide safe affordable childcare in a familiar environment.

PROGRAM:

The Prime Time program follows the curriculum developed by the National YMCA in conjunction with the National Institute for Out-of-School Time.  The curriculum contains several components.

Arts and Humanities - Fostering creativity and self-expression

Character Development - Incorporating the YMCA core values of respect, honesty, responsibility and caring

Health, Wellness, Fitness - Developing strong bodies and good health habits

Homework Support - Provides a time, place and support for homework

Literacy - Reading, writing, speaking. We use the KidzLit Program to get kids excited about books.

Science and Technology - Hands on science, indoor and out.

Service Learning - Helping children to make meaningful contributions to their community.

Social Competence - Understanding of natural and logical consequences; And Conflict Resolution        learning to accept responsibility for their actions.

STRUCTURE:

Children have the option of choosing from among several activities.  Out-of-school time can be structured and yet not regimented.  Children may work together in large or small groups or alone. Because children today are more sedentary than they should be, outdoor time and physical activities are a big part of our program.

Morning and afternoon snacks are served daily.

HOURS OF OPERATION:

The YMCA Prime Time program operates from 7:00 AM until the start of the school day and from the end of the school day until 6:00 PM.

FEES:

Weekly fees range from $33 per week to $58 per week, depending on your child’s school and enrollment. The YMCA Prime Time program contracts with SRS to accept childcare payments. If you apply for SRS and do not qualify, the YMCA has scholarships available.

For more information, please contact Terri Steinman at 354-8591, ext.111.
