Topeka YMCA enters into partnership with GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness
Topeka, Ks. – Beginning on October 29, 2018, GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness will own and operate the Topeka YMCA Downtown and North Topeka branches. The YMCA of Topeka Board of Directors approved the proposal in a unanimous vote on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. YMCA administrative offices will move to the YMCA Southwest branch and this branch will operate as headquarters for the YMCA going forward. All current YMCA childcare services and locations will remain the same. The YMCA will continue to offer programs and services in over 10 area schools and will continue to provide services to seniors, youth in the Topeka community and surrounding areas.
“We’re excited to work with GreatLIFE to serve not only those we serve today – but hope to serve for years to come,” said John Mugler, President and CEO of the Topeka YMCA. “This new agreement will allow the YMCA to focus on its mission to promote Youth Sports, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Both the YMCA and GreatLIFE have been part of successful partnerships like this in other communities. We look forward to the opportunity to work together.”
“Our goal from day one was to keep all locations open and operating for our members. This agreement offers an opportunity to capitalize and focus on the substantial expertise and resources of the YMCA to benefit our community,” said Jim Biggs, Chairman of the YMCA of Topeka.
“While change is often hard, our long history of service to the people of Topeka and the surrounding area will continue. The YMCA has seen many changes from its start as the Rail Road YMCA in 1880 and it is important that we continue to progress with a changing market. What will not change is our commitment to put Christian principles into practice through the programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all,” said Mugler.
Current members of the Downtown and North YMCA branches will become members of GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness effective November 1, 2018 and will have the added value of a GreatLIFE fitness membership at all Topeka locations. Both YMCA branches will be open and operating for members with no disruption in service.
Current members of the YMCA’s Southwest branch will remain members of the Southwest YMCA and will have the added value of a GreatLIFE fitness membership at all Topeka locations.
Donations for childcare, youth sports and other services and programs offered by the YMCA can be made at www.ymcatopeka.org and will be dedicated specifically to the effort specified by the donor.
