Message from the President
Dear Friend,
We invite you to take a few moments to review the wonderful world of the YMCA.
The YMCA was born in 1844 with a Christian Mission focusing on our four core values; Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility! By the time the YMCA of Topeka was born in 1880, the YMCA was the world’s first organized physical education health and wellness organization! As the inventors of the great sport of basketball (1891) and volleyball (1895), the YMCA also became known as the first organization focusing on the total human being - “spirit mind and body” is the cornerstone of the YMCA triangle.
At the center of the YMCA triangle is the inscription of the bible
verse John 16:21 “that we all may be one”.
Come join us! The Topeka YMCA has three wonderful branches and beautiful Camp Hammond. Out of these facilities, programs promoting and enhancing the spirit, mind and body for youth, teens and families are avilable from cradle to grave! As the leading provider of child care in the USA, the YMCA of Topeka offers many after school, summer camp and all day child care opportunities, in collaboration with the community at many locations throughout the greater Topeka area.
Likewise, many youth sports programs take place at locations not owed by the YMCA. We are proud to partner with many local schools, churches and other non-profit agencies to deliver YMCA programs.
In YMCA youth sports, every player is important (and plays at least half of the game). There is no first string. The development of the entire person is more important than the score!
These are just some of the highlights. Please feel free to call me at anytime. Thanks for looking!
